Simpson Associates Quarterly Charity Donation to Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team
As part of our ongoing commitment to local charities, this quarter we have chosen to support The Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, through a donation of new T-shirts to all members of the team.
A charity very close to our hearts – Giles Horwood, MD at Simpson Associates is one of the volunteers who gives up his free time to be on call and assist in rescue operations.
Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team is one of seven Mountain Rescue Teams based in the Peak District. It is run entirely by volunteers and funded by donations and grants that the team have to fund raise for, alongside being on call 24×7 for anyone that requires the rescue services of the team. The team not only operates in the mountains but provides support to the Police and Ambulance services in semi-rural areas; often searching for vulnerable missing people and rescuing injured mountain bikers. The team also operates a Water Rescue Team and get involved in flooding incidents.
The current COVID situation has meant the team have had to stop their traditional fundraising activities whilst call outs have continued and the costs have increased as they have had to purchase additional Personal Protection Equipment.
Since the beginning of lockdown the team have been involved in 25 incidents, including a number of mountain bike injuries, lost walkers, missing walkers, dealing with unexploded Second World War explosives and injured horse riders.
