Simpson Associates’ chosen charity for Q2
As an organisation it is important for us to give back to the wider community. For that reason, we have a dedicated in-house charity committee made up of employees across the business who have a passion for helping improve the lives of others.
For our summer charity contribution, after reflecting on the current cost of living crisis, the Charity Committee decided to raise foodbank donations within the company. We decided to support food banks local to York and Sheffield. In the current climate, more people than ever are using food banks – in fact, in the UK, 1 in 5 of us use them.
The Trussell Trust are a nationwide network of food banks who provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, they campaign for change and to bring an end to the need for food banks in the UK. They rely on volunteers and donations in order to support those in need.
The whole of Simpson Associates brought in items of food to donate, we had a donation box in the office for around 4 weeks to give everyone a chance to bring something in. Our people were amazing and went above and beyond to bring in lots of items ranging from cooking oil to nappies.
Over the 4 weeks and our collective efforts, we managed to collect a total of roughly 228kg worth of donations, which will be equally split between York Food Bank and Burngreave Food Bank Sheffield. Each donation would provide 270 meals to those who need it the most.
We will continue to think of ways to give back to our local and wider community all while raising awareness and educating our employees where needed. We look forward to sharing the next project with you.
‘When we decide on a charity project it is so important to us to think of ways our team can get actively involved and to see how their actions can positively contribute to others. It was really heart-warming to see all of Simpson Associates coming together and supporting the food banks and the vital work they do.’
