Navigating IBM’s new license reporting requirements
As of the 1st of August 2024, IBM introduced an important change to their license reporting information, introducing an ‘International Program License Agreement (IPLA)’ to their passport advantage agreements. This change affects the majority of IBM users globally, not industry or sector specific, meaning that this can feel an overwhelming introduction.
This blog will explore the changes to this license agreement, what this means for you, and how partnering with a solutions partner such as Simpson Associates can help you navigate this transition and maximise the value of your IBM investments.
What does this mean for you?
IBM has introduced a critical update to its licensing reporting requirements, affecting all users across all environments. With this revision, every organisation using this software must create an annual report. Failure to adhere to these requirements could lead to costly penalties. Here’s what you need to know to avoid these risks:
- Annual Reporting Requirement
Whereas before only certain product users needed to submit a report, this is no longer optional, and is mandatory for every user. Every year, organisations must now submit a detailed report of deployed IBM programs in an IBM provided template, easing communications between IBM and the client.
- Supporting Documentation
As well as the submission of the report, all supporting documentation must be provided. This includes records, system tools output and other system information reinforcing your report’s accuracy. With enhanced requirements for documentation, IBM have increased their policy, and all users must follow.
- Immediate Submission Readiness
This report needs to be ready to go at any point, as IBM can request at any time in order to avoid delays and penalties.
- Retain your documents and data
IBM specifies that this information must be retained, meaning that your organisation must track and store this deployment data.
Whether you are already using IBM or are looking to implement IBM into your data strategy this will have an impact. Proactively managing these requirements can avoid penalties and complications, and allow you to focus on your data strategy, harnessing the benefits of this software.
